Each of our characters has been chosen champion of their own species and they each think it is their personal destiny to save the world and keep everyone from being eaten. They are fighting each other for an enchanted key that the final champion will need to lock the big bad and all the predators away once and for all. Whoever beats up the rest of the champions gets the key and gets to face the big bad and save the world.

Everyone knows that Brony is a word for both Males and Females. So why do we need to make a new one for girls all of a sudden? Whoever came up with this most certainly as misguided on what…

I understand what you’re saying, and I agree that Pegasister is dumb, like we’re somehow adjuncts or special cases. But Brony is gendered too, both in root and in public perception (Wired, the Wall Street Journal, the New York Post, NPR? Non-male fans are an afterthought to their representations at best, and no one is really bothering to disabuse them of the idea). What started as a clever way to express the idea that anyone, anyone, could watch and enjoy this show, became self-reinforcing.

How many times have you heard the question, “what do we call girl bronies again?” If everyone knew the term was all-inclusive, how would this ever have come up? How would we even have gotten to the point of using Pegasister?

My response to this a few months ago, and it broke my heart to do so, was to stop identifying with this parallel pony fandom entirely. I still watch, enjoy, participate, but if you ask me, I’m a pony fan, or I’m part of the adult female peripheral demo the Hub identifies in the WSJ article. I’m not a Brony or a Pegasister, because what we needed for the start was a word as inclusive as the show’s message was to begin with. A word for male, female, genderqueer, androgynous, every other gender identity, every age, anyone and everyone.

But it’s too late for that now.
